Experience
John holds an LLB/BA and has been in practice for in excess of 25 years.
John has worked as a full time union officer, as an employed solicitor, part time university lecturer in Workplace Health & Safety and, since 1990, as a partner in a number of law firms. Commencing with Hall Payne Lawyers in 1999 as a Partner, he is now a Principal of the firm.
John lectured at the Queensland University of Technology in Workplace Health & Safety, has been an expert member of State Industry Safety Committees, has chaired the Employment, Training and Industrial Relations Policy Committee of the ALP, been a member of the Independent Rate Relief Tribunal, Secretary of the Industrial Relations Society and is currently a director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Queensland Inc. and a committee member of the Queensland Bookmakers Club Inc.
John is significantly experienced in advising clients with respect to all aspects of Employment Law, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Law, the Law of Organisations and Defamation.
John has:
- advised organisations at both a state and national level in relation to constitutions, structures, governance, contracts, tenders, membership disputation and all aspects of employment;
- drafted constitutions for associations, proprietary and guarantee companies, state and federal industrial organisations and national peak bodies;
- advised a significant number of Queensland, and National Unions, in relation to industrial and organisational issues;
- provided advice in both private and public sector employment;
- advised CEOs/Director Generals/senior public servants in relation to employment issues;
- drafted sophisticated employment instruments and contracts;
- provided advice to organisations and corporations on how to manage their industrial issues with fairness.
