Experience
Charles Massy holds an LLB from QUT and commenced with the firm 2003. He practises solely in firm’s Industrial and Employment law section.
In 2008 Charles was seconded to the Queensland Council of Unions to advise on the introduction and implementation of Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth).
He regularly advises a wide range of unions in the construction, electrical, mining, community, local government and public sectors. Charles also regularly advises senior executives on their contractual entitlements. He has considerable experience in representing clients in the State and Commonwealth Industrial Commissions and he has an extensive Federal Court practice.
Charles specialises in providing advice and conducting litigation in relation to:
- industrial disputes;
- the taking of protected industrial action;
- the approval of collective agreements;
- freedom of association;
- the interpretation and enforcement of industrial instruments;
- obligations arising under the Building Construction Industry Improvement Act 2005 (Cth);
- termination of employment;
- restraints of trade; and
- the operation and management of community associations.
Charles is the Chair of the Employment and Industrial Relations policy committee of the ALP. He is also the Vice President of Qualtime Association Inc, a not for profit community organisation specialising in the provision of respite care for young adults with disabilities.
