Sunil Kemppi
Senior Associate
Sunil is a dedicated advocate for working people, with a career in the union movement that began in 2008. Starting as an organiser and progressing to an industrial officer, Sunil has consistently demonstrated his commitment to driving meaningful change.
As the Senior Industrial Officer at the CPSU, Sunil provided high-level strategic advice on bargaining and industrial action and worked on a long-running workplace determination for union members in the Department of Home Affairs.
Between 2016 and 2019, Sunil also served as a director of the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, overseeing various public sector superannuation funds.
Prior to joining Hall Payne, Sunil worked for the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) as a Senior Legal and Industrial Officer. Sunil's work at the ACTU included providing crucial early advice on the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on workers, working on a number of significant legal cases and providing legal advice during the consultations for the Closing Loopholes legislation. He also has a keen interest in union governance matters, having recently participated in the FWC's regulatory powers review.

Outside of work, Sunil enjoys reading, playing chess, hiking, travel and scuba diving.
